If the sample company does not open (If it does open, skip down to resolution 6) 

Resolution: 1 Verify that mysqld.exe and mysqld-nt.exe exist

To Verify that the “mysqld.exe and mysqld-nt.exe” exist read the mentioned steps below:

  1. Windows Vista/ 7/ 8:
  • Check the mysqld-nt.exe file exists in: C:\Program Files

(x86)\winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary\5.0.38\mysql

  • Check the mysqld.exe file exists in: C:\ Program Files

(x86)\winsim\ConnectionManager\MySqlBinary\5.6.10\mysql

  1. If they do not exist, your security software (firewall or antivirus) may have quarantined the executable or the file was removed manually:
  2. In case, the file was quarantined, please ping the security software provider to ask which processes and ports do i need to allow through my firewall to ensure that Sage 50 Canadian Edition will operate appropriately or not. 

Note: AVG is known to block the mysqld-nt.exe or mysqld.exe process:

  1. Hover over AVG and then access the Virus Vault, select Options, and then click  Virus Vault.
  2. If you see a process (or processes) that would be related to the Windows path name listed above then restore those processes to correct the issue. 
  3. AVG needs to be active to be able to perform the restoration. Once all set, you should be able to open Sage 50. 

Note: If you have issues completing the steps, kindly contact an IT technician to configure your firewall / antivirus software configuration. 

  1. If the files was removed manually, you can either:
  2. Repair Sage 50
  3. Disable the antivirus temporarily.
  4. Choose Control Panel, Programs and Features (or Add/ Remove Programs)
  5. Click Change.
  6. Now select the Update/ Reinstall option. 

Resolution: 2 Reinstall the Program

To Reinstall the Sage 50 Accounting Software Read the given steps below:

  1. Uninstall Sage 50
  2. Reinstall Sage 50
  3. Confirm that company file will now open. 

Resolution: 3 Restart Sage 50 Connection Manager 

Given Below are the steps of how to restart the Sage 50 Connection Manager:

  1. To start the process, select Control Panel, Administrative tools, then Services. 
  2. Give a right-click on Sage 50 Database Connection Manager. 
  3. Now click Stop.
  4. If you get a message saying “The Connection manager service could not be started”, you need administrator rights on this computer to start the service.
  5. Put efforts to open the company file. 

Resolution: 4 Reinstall the connection manager

Give a glance below to know how the connection manager can be reinstalled:

  1. Windows 7 or Vista: right-click the Command Prompt, then click Run as Administrator. 
  2. Enter: sc delete “ServiceName”.

Note: you need to wrap the service name in quotes if your service name has spaces in it. Just like this: sc delete “Sage 50 Database Connection Manager”

  1. If you receive an error [SC] OpenService FAILED 1060:, on the command line type in on the command line type: sc query type= service state= all
  2. Then re-enter the sc delete “ServiceName” command with the correct service name.
  3. Press the F5 key to refresh your Services list, you will see that the service is gone.
  4. When you confirm the service has been deleted, bring up the task manager. (CTRL+Shift+ESC) on the process tab click or check Show processes from all users.
  5. End the Simply.SystemTraylcon.exe process.
  6. Navigate to the appropriate winsim folder:
  • 32 bit computers go to: C:\Program Files\winsim
  • 64 bit computers go to: C:\Program Files (x86)winsim
  • Delete the Connection Manager folder
  • Reinstall Sage 50
  • It will prompt you that Sage 50 is already installed.
  • Select the Update/Reinstall Program (Second option) 
  • Once the reinstall is complete reboot your computer.
  • Now open Sage 50

Resolution: 5 Start the Windows Event Log service 

If you want to know how to start the “Windows Event Log service” read below:

  1. Click Control Panel, Administrative tools and then select Services.
  2. Choose Windows Event Log in the services list and double-click to open the Properties window.
  3. If service is disabled: Change the Startup Type to Automatic.
  4. Hit Apply and Start button will become available.
  5. Once service is available/ automatic: click the Start button to start the service later press OK.
  6. Switch to open Sage 50 when the service starts.
  7. If in case, the service is not starting, or there is an error 1053: Select Log On tab then Add the Local administrator. 
  8. Ensure that the service status is started.
  9. Then try to open the company file. 
  10.  If here you get an error 4201, the instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider open Command Prompt as administrator. 
  11. Type: cd C:\ Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI.
  12. Type: rename RtBackup RtBackup2. If you get an ‘access denied’ error message go to the next step, otherwise follow step 15.
  13.  In the “Start” menu, locate “Command Prompt”. Right-click and choose “Run as Administrator”. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, enter the password or provide confirmation.
  14.  Type the following commands then press “Enter” to execute them one by one. Please note the space before the command and its parameter.

takeown /f C:\windows\system32\logfiles\wmi\rtbackup
cacls C:\windows\system32\logfiles\wmi\rtbackup /G administrators:F

  1.  Now exit Command Prompt. 
  2.  You need to Reboot your computer. 
  3.  If the event log is still not starting, kindly contact your local IT person to fix this issue.

If the sample company does open:

Resolution: 6 Open Existing Company 

You can Open the Existing Company by following the given steps below:

  1. If the recently used company has a UNC path (for example,\\server\company name)
  2. Next, select an existing company. 
  3. Browse to the company in Windows Explorer (for example C:\Sage 50 Data\)

Resolution: 7 Check if the SAJ folder has a read-only attribute

If the SAJ folder has a read-only attribute or not you can read below to know:

  1. First, close Sage 50- Canadian Edition
  2. Navigate to the location where the company file resides.
  3. Right-click folder with the extension SAJ
  4. And then select Properties. 
  5. Clear Read-Only box if a checkmark is there
  6. Press OK.
  7. Finally, restart the Sage 50 Accounting and try to open the company file again.

Resolution: 8 Ensure that all files & folders are visible in the .SAJ folder

You can ensure that all files & folders are visible in the .SAJ folder by reading the given steps below:

  1. Browse to the location where the company file resides.
  2. Give a right-click folder with the extension SAJ.
  3. Now select Properties.
  4. Clear Hidden box checkmark if one is there.
  5. Click Apply 
  6. And then press OK.
  7. Open the folder with the extension SAJ.
  8. Ensure that all files and folders are located within the .SAJ folder when opening a data file or restoring from backup.

Resolution: 9 Replace the ODBC 3.51.28 with 3.51.19

Resolution 12: My data is on Remote Data Access

  • Re-download a copy of the company file giving the error from Sage Drive/ Remote Data Access.
  1. Select connect to shared company option from the main screen of Sage 50 or from within an existing company file that can open, click on File, Connect to a shared company.
  2.  If prompted, log in with your Sage account email address. 
  3. Choose the company file having the issue and hit connect.
  4. Navigate to the location and file name you would like and click Save. If you wish to overwrite the existing file that has the error, select the same name and location as that the file was previously saved in and hit Yes when it asks you if you would like to overwrite the existing file.  
  5. Once the company file completes downloading and syncing, it should open normally. 

Resolution: 13 Restore from backup

If the backup was deleted or lost, follow the steps below to Restore the Backup:

  • Find a sage50 backup .CAB file and search for your company file as well. 
  1. Restore it from a backup to a folder on local C:\\to check if the file is able to open locally. 

Important: It is not recommended to use OneDrive, DropBox, or Google Drive as the location where your active dta files (the SAI file and matching SAJ folder) are stored. The SAI’s and SAJ’s should be saved to a local hard drive. If you have to share the data over several locations (i.e. access data from the workplace and from home), you have an option to save your company files in a folder synced with OneDrive, DropBox, or Google Drive.

c) Highlight a database and read the Database Path at the bottom of the window to find the physical database file.
d) Now navigate to the edit Company and the database name will be shown in the lower left corner. 
If the Sage Fixed Assets-Depreciation program is not accessible:
a) Search in Windows for files FAS.DB, BEST.DB Or .BDB (entered as FAS.DB;BEST.DB; .BDB TO search for all at once). The default location for the FAS.DB is:
1. Single User: C:\Program Files\Sage Fixed Assets\Depreciation\Data
2. Network (on server): C:\SFA SERV\Data
NOTE: It is NOT recommended to move data by copying databases. However, when copying a database copy ONLY the database file (.db or .bdb).
If you are using the Sage Fixed Assets Premier Program: 
1. Your database is stored on your SQL Server. Locating the SQL Server can be done from a client workstation or the server. 
2. Moving to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOF TWARE\ Wow6432Node\Best Software\ MSBESTSYS and view the Engine name which is the name of your SQL server.
